Opening the teabar from 1-7, Tues to Sat has been a great success! We have seen many familiar faces, and many new ones.
The most popular thing to do around haere is stop in at Daidoco next door for lunch (best Japanese food in the city!) and pop in to JagaSilk for tea afterward.
Samples for the Nuwara Eliya region Ceylon black tea we will be releasing have arrived. Swing by the teabar for a sneak preview while the leaves last! The harvest date says June15th, 2010. Is that not out of this world mind-boggling????? So very very very fresh.
I love fresh tea!
JagaSpam Issue #1
Submitted by JagaSilk on Thu, 06/17/2010 - 02:51.TEABAR HOURS
Our teabar has now been open for almost 1 year. We have decided to give it the attention it deserves, taking it from a wholesale hub open to the public on Friday and Saturday, to a more accessible timeline; it will become a full-fledged teabar open 5 days a week.
Though this week we are open only today (June 16; a Wednesday) and tomorrow from 1-7...
**** Beginning next week, June 22nd (tues), we will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 1-7
We are located at A17-633 Courtney St, right behind the Bug Zoo in beautiful Victoria, BC. Come find us inside of Nootka Court (humbly located next to the Fairmont Empress Hotel)
Our latest feature is inspired by Russian jam tea. We have blended organic house raspberry jam and blended it with a koicha maccha shot, poured over organic Avalon milk on the rocks. Damn fine!

Submitted by JagaSilk on Tue, 02/03/2009 - 21:59.We just received word that Masaki Kubo's masterpeices are on display at the Louvre in Paris, France. What an honour. His chasen are absolutely magnificent and this display is a wonderful testamount to his skill and aesthetic. Congratulations Mr. Kubo!

November Fellowship Went Awesome!
Submitted by JagaSilk on Sat, 11/22/2008 - 05:27.The November Session (14!) of the Fellowship of the Maccha, held at Khona, went wonderfully! Every person there seemed super keen on learning about "How to Destroy Your Tea". They listened to Miyu and I talk about the fragility and wine-like qualities of tea.
The big 5: moisture, heat, oxygen, strong odours, and light. They destroy your tea!
Everyone is welcome to the next Fellowship of the Maccha, session 15, where we will bake maccha cookies and make maccha honey lemon americanos. Yum.
The Broadmead Bakery Christmas Preview Bash
Submitted by JagaSilk on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 11:48.So much good food, good drink, and so many happy people at the Broadmead Bakery's first (soon to be annual) Christmas Preview. They featured all their new seasonal baked goods at an after hours party, complete with beautiful jazz music and me and Miyu serving up some maccha! The good boys of Oughtred were also out pulling shots for the party and it was a whirlwind of a night. We went home with a care package of sweets to absolutely die for and highly recommend going to the Broadmead Bakery the next time you are in Broadmead Village.
2% Jazz Training Session Was Kewl
Submitted by JagaSilk on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 11:42.The good people at 2% Jazz, minus Sean the sellout (yeah, Sean, I am calling you a sellout!) got together with us here at JagaSilk and held an advanced level training session. We showed them the video of Masaki Kubo handcutting a chasen that we took in Nara last August, and the tour of the stone grinding facility in Uji. They all tweaked their technique, tasted Dragonfly, got creative with Crane (hah!) and managed to get though the session without hurting anyone seriously. There was some green teeth and some positively wicked microfoam.

Training Session at the Broadmead Bakery Went Awesome!
Submitted by JagaSilk on Fri, 10/24/2008 - 07:23.We just got back from a wonderful training session with the good people of the Broadmead Bakery in Broadmead Village. The crew and owners are always super nice and today was no exception! We went through the cuppings and knowledge and preparation, even briefly touching on artisan milk. They all did great. If you are in the area, stop in and ask for an organic Maccha Cappuccino! Delicious and smooth!
We will be seeing them again for their Christmas Preview Open House in November on the 12th.

JagaSilk Releases Cracked Pottery Chawan
Submitted by JagaSilk on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 08:09.
Introducing Cracked Pottery by Ota! Ota is local to Victoria, yet Japanese. His glocal artistry has enabled gorgeous chawan to be created. His cracked style is unique to him yet based on a traditional Japanese style that allows the flavours of the tea to gradually soak into the pottery and flavour your tea more and more deeply with time. A must for the maccha connoisseur, and a perfect complement to the one hundred year ld signature smoked bamboo chasen.
There are two types:
